A chandelier that connects six floors

In the heart of Warsaw, within a boutique apartment building, a light installation has emerged—one that cannot be captured in a single glance. It is a composition of 90 glass shades, one and a half kilometers of braided cable, and over 100 kilograms of artisan-blown glass. Suspended in the stairwell connecting six floors, it creates a luminous vertical pathway that guides the eye upward and downward, telling a story about balance between scale and detail.

Light that sets the rhythm of the interior

This chandelier, stretching across several levels, was designed not only to illuminate the space but also to organize, adorn, and bring harmony between the floors. The MEDUSE glass shades used in the installation were custom-made in shades of black, orange, and lime—colors inspired by the mosaic decorating the interior of the building. Each shade is the result of human craftsmanship—hand-colored and hand-formed by Polish glass masters. Together, they form an immersive luminous organism that animates the interior and sets its rhythm.

A chandelier where engineering precision meets artistic sensibility
Spanning six floors, the chandelier is a structure weighing around 200 kilograms, with a total cable length of 1.5 kilometers. At this scale, nothing is left to chance. The Gie El team worked on the installation for weeks, refining every element—from the arrangement of shades and cable routing, to detailed installation guidelines and safe packaging for transport. The installation was designed to hang within the stairwell void, which required careful consideration of structural, technical, and fire safety aspects.

Every detail was crafted with aesthetics, safety, and durability in mind. This project unites artisanal precision, engineering accuracy, and artistic sensitivity.

A large-scale light installation by Gie El

During the day, the installation draws attention with the intricate rhythm of its dozens of cables, among which colorful, energetic, and playful shades break free. When night falls, the chandelier transforms into a monumental light sculpture, changing its form depending on the viewing angle—appearing differently from each floor. Warm reflections of glass illuminated from within shimmer across the building’s windows and blend with the city lights, creating a vibrant and radiant composition. This project demonstrates that craftsmanship and engineering can coexist in harmony, creating something far greater than the sum of their parts. For Gie El, it stands as yet another proof that there is no space too challenging to make it shine.
