Interview with Maria Rypuła, founder and CEO of Gie El

Hotel Suplier’s reporters sat down for an interview with Maria Rypula, Founder and CEO of Gie El, to discuss Gie El’s sculptural hotel lighting and chandeliers.

Hotel Suppliers: Can you tell us about the history of Gie El?

Maria Rypula: Gie El was established as a design and architectural studio back in 2007. Our brand has always been strongly related to design and conceptual thinking. Even the name “Gie El” comes from the Latin “genius loci,” a phrase that’s deeply rooted in architectural language. It means that we prioritize design in our approach to creating products for places like hotels and restaurants. We believe that good design requires a forward-thinking mentality, and that’s what we strive for in every product we create.

HS: How intreuging! So what was the inspiration behind Gie El?

MR: Our inspiration comes from a love of design and a desire to create something unique and visionary. We believe that good design is not about copying or imitation; it’s about finding something that’s fresh and innovative. We strive to create outstanding products that meet the needs of the market, whether that’s for hotels or any other type of space.

At Gie El, we put emotion and creativity into every product we make…

HS: What do you think sets Gie El apart from its competitors?

MS: At Gie El, we put emotion and creativity into every product we make. We design avant-garde chandeliers and lighting installations that are like sculptures, making them a statement piece in any space. Our focus is on creating products that are both beautiful and functional. We also take pride in the fact that all of our products are handmade by skilled craftsmen in Poland.

HS: Your installations are certainly very evocative. How has Gie El grown since its launch?

MR: We’ve grown significantly over the years, with clients around the world. Our products can be found in many prestigious hotels and restaurants, and we’re honored to have had the opportunity to work with some of the biggest names in the hospitality industry. We’ve also expanded our team, and we now have a dedicated team of designers and craftsmen who share our passion for design and craftsmanship.

HS: What would you say has been one of your proudest moments for Gie El thus far?

MR: One of our proudest moments was when clients began to recognize Gie El as a visionary brand and working with us became more than just a business transaction. This opened up our business to luxury and boutique hotels, which has been a significant area of growth for us. It’s incredibly rewarding to see our products in some of the most beautiful and prestigious hotels in the world, and we’re honored to have played a role in creating those spaces.

HS: Inspiring! It’s been a pleasure to discuss Gie El with you- we’ve loved getting to know a bit more about your story.
