discover the 'Light The Rust' installation
The installation ‘Light The Rust’ takes you into a world where the boundaries between the sacred and the profane are blurred. Rust, usually associated with oblivion and decay, becomes the main actor in the act of creation, proving that even what is commonly considered degraded can be a source of inspiration. The process of rusting is presented here as a creative force, transforming matter and giving it a new, unexpected, but after all so elementary, dimension. In this project, rust is illuminated—both literally and metaphorically—revealing its natural beauty and the power of nature’s forces.
‘Light The Rust’ not only celebrates the creative process but also invites visitors to step into a space where they can accompany, experience, and become part of it. This intriguing journey through a pathway of experiences leads to a new perception of reality—from an ordinary piece of metal, partly taken over by rust, light bathed, shimmering cloud of geometric birds suspended in space.
Placed in the ascetic, white interiors of the Szczecin Philharmonic Hall, the ‘Light The Rust’ installation creates an incredible contrast. The clean, minimalist surroundings emphasise the rawness and organic nature of the rust, enhancing both its aesthetic and emotional message. The juxtaposition of these two worlds—the clear, pristine one and the rusty, decaying one—opens up space for deep reflection on time, change and the infinite potential of imagination.
In a world where humans are increasingly surrounded by modern technologies, artificial intelligence, an overwhelming amount of data, and a flood of images and sounds, Gie El proposes a retreat, turning attention back to the primal creative processes of nature itself. The richness of the installation stems from the very process of creation, driven by none other than Mother Nature herself. We touch upon the mystery of the creative process, which, when delved into, makes one dizzy with its genius. With full devotion, chapeau bas, Nature!
