GENIUS 1 is a chandelier born from the need for beauty. Crafted from raw blocks of mountain crystal – a semi-transparent precious stone. This natural stone beautifully merges with light, absorbing it and then emitting a very subtle glow. A beautiful, natural product that forms a unique symbiosis with light. Designer Maria Rypuła saw potential in this raw stone and decided to create a product that enriches interiors. ‘When I first looked at the raw block of this stone, I liked its natural form. Untreated, irregular, wild. Each one different. I thought it was an interesting product. However, when I shone the light from my smartphone’s flashlight on it, I was speechless. It was like a culinary combination of two ingredients. Both good. But only when combined did we get an exceptionally surprising taste. The same was true for the combination of light and crystal. The way the light penetrates the mountain crystal is mesmerizing. I knew that creating a modern chandelier would be an incredible challenge.’ GENIUS 1 is a minimalist chandelier consisting of over thirty individual mountain crystals of various sizes. Each stone is suspended on a thin wire encased in thread. The composition of the chandelier was created so that the largest crystals are positioned lower, while the smaller and lighter ones seem to float like dandelions in the air. The chandelier has two separate light sources. Ambient light, which influences emotions and creates an atmosphere inside, comes from the interior of the crystals. The second light source consists of small LED bulbs located in the ceiling. With them, we can freely illuminate the interior. Both light sources can be used simultaneously or separately. There’s also an option for installing dimmable LED bulbs in the ceiling, allowing us to freely adjust the light intensity inside. ‘When designing a product, I pay attention to how it will affect the final recipient, what emotions it will evoke. The functionality of the product is extremely important, but I aim for the product to intrigue and be, in the interior, like a sculpture,’ emphasizes designer Jacek Rypuła.”
